We live in a world of constant evolution where technology keeps on changing everything around us. From infrastructure to our lifestyle, the things we like, buy and eat, everything is related to technology in some way or other. Over the past few years, technology has made a deep impact on the functioning of the world. Now if we think about it, we won’t be able to live without it. It has several positive changes however, every coin has two sides and therefore, technology has its share of negative impacts.
Immersed in our phones, with earphones shutting out the noise from the outside world, fingers constantly scrolling through the latest designed clothes or some Instagram posts, this is our lives these days. We might think we are healthy and blooming from the outside but from the inside we all are unhealthy, stressed, and exhausted. No matter how sleepy one is, no one forgets to scroll through some reels before going to bed. And before you would even know it, it will be already 2 hours of unnecessary scrolling. So, then is the technology for the better or the worse?
It’s not like technology has only a negative side. There are several benefits of it as well. For example- technology refines productivity in business. Every day new methods of business are introduced like e-commerce. Socializing is the fundamental need of a man which is done through technology only. And all of this is possible only through technology. But is that even what we want?
Technology has a lot of impact on our lives. It sometimes changes the way we think. And we are bound to prove ourselves no matter what. For example- for someone who uses an iPhone, it would be difficult to keep the obsolete model even when it is perfectly found. You will have to get it changed once the brand launches the new model.
On the other hand, social media is the reason people are losing interest in personal conversations. Earlier, not knowing your neighbor was indeed something one could not even think about. But today, spending even 5 years not knowing who lives next door is a real thing. Whatever little time we get, we waste it spending on things that don’t even matter in the real life. For example, have you ever considered going out with friends and not posting about it on any of the social media platforms? The answer is no. We are so busy proving the fact that we are enjoying our lives but on the contrary, we are just addicted.
Like I said before, every coin has two sides, below are the pros and cons of using technology-
Pros-
It Saves Time
The first benefit of using technology is that it saves your time. No matter what we are doing, we can do it in seconds. With the assistance of technology several activities like cooking, cleaning, ordering food, listening to music, and commuting has become faster. But the real question is, how are we using the time we saved? Well, we are not using it, we are wasting it; saying we are being technologically advanced.
Better Communication
The next thing that technology has made easier and simpler is communication. Earlier, communicating with someone who does not live with you was a task. However, today connecting with anyone is so easy. But again, are we communicating? Today, communication is limited to sending a few memes over Instagram and dropping a text or two over WhatsApp. We have lost the urge to talk to anyone, no matter how close he or she might be.
Best Time Pass
Technology is the best time pass irrespective of age. We can watch movies, read books, play games, and whatnot. Today, we spend most of our time doing something or the other on our phones. But are we passing the time? Do we have that much time in reality? As a matter of fact, no, we are not passing time but we are just running away from reality hiding behind a 6-inch screen.
Cons of Technology
It creates dependencies
Technology has made us all dependent on certain gadgets or tools. We don’t even want to think or recall the information since everything is instantly available on the internet these days. Even before our brain starts to think, our hands automatically start typing. This is how technology has changed us in a certain way.
Privacy Threat
Privacy Threat is one of the major problems when using technology on any device. You cannot be 100% sure that your data and personal information are safe. However, most apps and tools ensure privacy measures but are they enough to be safe from potential privacy risks?
It creates a social divide
The most disturbing con of technology is that it creates a divide. Implementing technology is dear in some ways, but keeping ourselves updated with the latest one might be a little difficult for some people. This will create a social divide among the people that are able and unable to afford these technologies.
So, in a nutshell, technology has changed us and everything around us. Whatever we do, is somehow connected to technology. There are many implications of technology on the nature of human beings. It depends upon a person how he or she wants to use the technology. However, technology is turning man into something that does not even exist; zombies.
We don’t want to deal with real-life issues in the world. Therefore, the use of technology should be limited to an extent that it does not start to affect our real life.
So, the rest is upon us whether we want to use the technology for the good or the worse.
